blog post 22 - Jake Waits
The unusual circumstances about my life are that I grew up on a farm and continue to work on a farm currently. This unique condition has led to me being a harder worker and learning skills that I would not have learned without the farm such as problem solving skills. Working with animals and on a farm there are few days where everything goes according to plan. Whether it be because of cattle escaping their field, a wagon wheel deflated, or a tractor that needs fixing, there is always something unexpected that comes up. This has taught me how to effectively problem solve and find the best solution on the fly. Another skill I learned from the farm I've learned is just responsibility in general. Like in life everything is time sensitive and you can’t skip duties just because you're tired or sick. These skills will make college a good fit for me because college is all about responsibility. A;los there are a multitude of problems that can come up as a young adult in college when dealing with classes and room and board.
