Assignment 5- Hannah Whaley- Television- a love-hate relationship

I’m sinking comfortably into the couch, arm consistently flicking handfuls of popcorn into an open mouth as my eyes are glued to the television mindlessly. My mind- empty. Belly- full. Dog- in lap. At this point... there’s no moving me. I can sit like this for a good few hours before an unsettling feeling of emptiness overtakes me and I have to shut off the TV and go socialize. Television is the perfect way to entertain yourself without having to think. Unlike reading, my favorite pastime, it requires you to do nothing but open your eyes and press the occasional “are you still watching?” I hate that pop up because it reminds me I am completely and utterly wasting my time. The drawbacks of a television addiction are clear to see through the numerous students cutting hours from their sleep schedule and forgetting assignments in order to watch pointless shows. I used to think that reading was the perfect escape, but now I have realized it’s television. Television allows you to be completely blank for hours on end- reading requires you to at least turn letters into words into images. At this point, I still love a good marvel movie or supernatural television show. However, I try to limit myself to using television as background noise while I am doing something else because I find myself feeling useless and empty after a day of staring at a screen. But, if I am going to waste my time with such a wasteful activity, I know how to do it right. Lucifer is a fantastic show. I don’t only like the dashing main character, but the storyline is also fantastic for any fantasy freak. As for movies, most Marvel or DC movies are worthy of my time.
However, 10 Things I Hate About You and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days are also two great romantic comedies. Anyways, my phone has one percent, so this was fun!
