Assignment #4: Human Trafficking Near You- Kelly Landry
Something that challenged my beliefs is that I recently discovered that human trafficking is still a large industry in our world, our country even, today. At present, there are around 40.3 million victims of human trafficking in the world, and about 300,000 are United States citizens under the ago of 18. This was shocking for me to find out because this is an issue I think of as primarily occurring in third world countries and rarely. However, I also became aware of an organization called the International Justice Mission, a non-governmental organization with the goal of continuously decreasing the presence of human trafficking, child labor, and similar circumstances. There are several other organizations with similar ideals. Because of of this realization I am hoping to be apart of one of these organizations, with the goal of positively impact not only my own personal community, but also global culture.
