I like to think of myself as a Jack of all trades, but master of none.
Debate has opened my world up to the analysis of policy. I have had to analyze everything from the impact of pharmaceutical prices to China's transcontinental infrastructure project. I enjoy the study of policy, but I think myself to introverted to dedicate my life as an elected official. I would much rather do specific analyses pertaining to one particular topic, but I can't seem to decide which area of policy I should go into.
My family is made up of medical professionals, and as such, I have been expected to be a doctor. It doesn't help that people don't distinguish between countries on the Indian sub-continent, and thusly a half Pakistani is relegated to the typical stereotype of having to become a doctor or be shamed by your family. I can't help but be fascinated by the stories told by my parents about the patients they see, or the satisfaction they get from an arduous day saving lives at the hospital.
I am also interested in language. I ought to be quadrilingual if it weren't for my family's failure to teach me our native tongue and my own lack of dedication. I have dabbled in Urdu and Arabic, but it is difficult to stay dedicated to learning these with my busy schedule.
I hope to be able to decide what I want to do with my life before I apply for schools, as that would be nice to know. I suppose if not I can just apply as undecided like everyone else.
