Assignment 15 - Justin Zhu
Now I've stated this plenty of times in my other blog posts, but I'm a big fan of Japanese culture. One of the more mesmerizing aspects of Japanese cultures has to be their music. There are just so many different genres and each artist is extremely unique. There's the metal band known as Babymetal and idol groups such as Aquors. While the States doesn't contain any idols, Japan is all over them. Babymetal, however is extremely unique to me. They're a "metal" group but they're lead by a group of young girls. Obviously this is far from the norm of the metal genre, but they've racked up a huge following world wide. Japan also boasts the home of vocaloids, automated voices that can sing the lyrics of any song. While personally I'm not a vocaloid fan, these automated voices and their personas are used by professional artists and even indie groups without their main singer. There are other artists like Camellia who's remixes are out of this world (seriously go listen to his stuff). Either way, if you can move past the fact you can't understand the language, it's not difficult to appreciate and love the music. And if you really want to connect more, there are plenty of translations that you can read while humming along with the song.
